Earl swooped into New England waters as a tropical storm with winds of 70 mph after sideswiping North Carolina’s Outer Banks, where it caused flooding but no injuries and little damage.
Hampton Roads geared up for what was thought to be an impressive storm, however it never really came to pass. Unless of course, you consider heavy rain fall and a few gusts of wind hitting up to 40 mph in short bursts an impressive storm. Either way, we are thankful we were spared from what Mother Nature could have brought to our local community.
Please let us know how the storm affected you and post pictures if you have some.
NeedLocalHelp.com was bringing local news to our community throughout this storm and will be here for the next.
Hurricane Earl appears to have spared South Hampton Roads of major problems, so far.

Hurricane Earl swirled toward the East Coast on Thursday with treacherous winds and driving rain, forcing thousands of vacationers to evacuate parts of the Outer Banks and setting in motion a flurry of preparations to minimize damage as far north as Maine.
While the Category 3 storm churned its way toward Hatteras Island – later dropping to a Category 2 – a fascinated public gathered at the dunes surrounding the Frisco Pier late Thursday afternoon.
About 50 people had gathered there between 4 and 5 p.m. to socialize, drink beer and place bets on the fate of the vulnerable pier. Amateur and professional photographers took pictures of each other taking pictures.
“The U.S. Postal Service will be delivering Social Security checks early because of Hurricane Earl.
The early delivery began Wednesday and will continue through today, according to the postal service.
